Kisumu International Airport is one of the newly upgraded airports in Kenya. Its located in Kisumu County in Kenya. Kisumu is a strategic city in Western Kenya Located along the shores of Lake Victoria.
The Airport uses International Air Transport Association (IATA) airport code: KIS. While the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Airport Code: HKKI. Its operated by Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) the Elevation is AMSL 3,796 ft / 1,157 m and Coordinates: 00°05′10″S 34°43′44″E.

The Kisumu International Airport It is the third-busiest airport in Kenya. It’s also the country’s fourth international airport. Kisumu is a center of trade between the East African countries due to its proximity to their borders. The Kisumu new terminal has the capacity to handle 700 passengers an hour which translates to 2 million passengers per year.

Currently, Kisumu International Airport has embarked on a 4.9 billion shilling expansion project as it seeks to boost its capacity to handle bigger aircraft by construction of a parallel taxiway, cargo apron and associated facilities.
Kisumu International Airport Runway
The 2011 upgrade of the airport saw the length of the runway was extended from 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) to 3.3 kilometres (2.1 mi). This now gives the Kisumu International Airport the capacity to handle large-capacity passenger and cargo aircraft.
Kisumu International Airport Cargo Handling
The Airport which boasts of an international facility capable of accommodating Boeing 767 aircrafts. Being located at the industrial city of Kisumu and the third largest city in Kenya, KAA has embarked on additional development of the airport. The strategic location of the airport in Kisumu city which serves as the communication and trading confluence for the Great Lakes Region: Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi give it a viable for regional trade.

- Construction of a parallel taxiway and cargo apron
- Widening and strengthening of the runway by 3300m
- Development of a cargo transit shed
- Development of a cut flowers pack house
- The Development of a vegetables and fruits pack house
- Development of a fish processing pack house
This will position Kisumu International Airport as the key export airport for sh sugar, rice and fresh produce from the great lakes region. With the revival of the cotton industry and the molasses plant, coupled with strengthened support to the fishing industry, this contribution will increase significantly.
